    Very little.

The hotel is a converted nursing home and most of the rooms in the main building still look like a nursing home: acoustic ceiling tiles, a tiny room with barely a double bed (for 2 people!), exceptionally cheap diy furniture, understaffed, poorly maintained, mismatched towels, one tab of butter per person at breakfast....and no general manager to be found to address concerns - the poor gal at reception (who did speak English) had little power to help us. If you want to stay here, best to book "The Lodge" building - the rooms are somewhat better and the short walk to the "castle" is worth the reduced room rate....but make sure to check out the pictures of the room for the category/rate you are selecting. Do not book one of the nursing home rooms - these are located in the main "castle" BUILDING....ugh..

*spacious room with a view. *high level of cleanliness. *attitude and helpfulness of diningroom staff. *plushness of towels *interesting/imaginative vegetarian dishes *location of diningroom

*kettle flex too short, had to use floor *bathroom door could be very difficult to open *flushing handle on toilet too near toilet seat *no bedside table on one of the single beds *should have provided discount for inconvenience of staying in lodge and cramped parking there.

The staff were very helpful in particular David in the roof top restaurant. The food we had was very good on all 3 nights we ate there. The spa facilities was good and when we visited it was very quiet, which we liked.

    nice hotel good centrel location.

We picked the hotel because of its location near Edinburgh, while being in the countryside, as well as reasonable price. The hotel and grounds have a grand appearance. Our room was in the new addition which was clean and comfortable and had a beautiful view of the lush countryside. However, in appearance it was basic hotel decor. We dined in the Rooftop restaurant. The young man who served us was professional yet friendly, and added to our enjoyment of a fabulous meal, again with the wonderful view. Other hotel staff were indifferent. We didn't use the pool or spa services so can't comment on those.

Very relaxing if u want a total chill out. Very quiet fab if u r a reader. The swimming pool did have tables and chairs around the area sun loungers would have been a good idea to have also. The sun roof restuarant was fab and meals excellent, by far the best dining experiance I have had ,the presentation and quality of food was first class and the views wer amazing , I would recommend it for a romantic getaway anytime

The only negative points we have r we r use to king size beds instead of doubles (personal prefrance) and bars were not open during the day for snacks and drinks.

Staff were extremely helpful. some things didn't work eg TV and showers by pool were cold but staff were so helpful and the problems were quickly resolved

The location of the spa was amazing, it made up for the rest of the visit which was a little disappointing. It is located in a large glasshouse in the wooded grounds separate from the hotel with lovely views of the gardens. It was very clean and very relaxing.

The room was classed as an executive double, it was very basic, uncomfortable and smelled of smoke. Not what I was expecting.

It is a very peaceful, quiet setting. We had privacy, and ejoyed some wonderful food. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
